What do I do before a Newborn Session?

First of all these are just suggestions to follow. If you only do a few or none of these you will still have a successful newborn session!

  1. Dress baby in a zipper or button up sleeper. This keeps things easy for me undressing him/her if they have fallen asleep on the way to their session.

  2. Don’t let baby have a 3 hr nap before the session. Baby can nap but cut it short so he/she will be sleepy for our session.

  3. DO feed baby 30 min before hand.

When is the best time to book a session?

Newborn sessions I typically book at 10am. Most babies are happy and sleep during this time. The best age to book a newborn session is between 5-12 days new.

Maternity sessions can be booked between 30-34 weeks. If you are doing an in studio session with me I like to book during the day for the best light. If we are doing an outdoor session I like to do these an hour before sunset. This time varies depending on the season!

Family sessions are typically booked an hour before sunset as well. I love golden hour images and this really hallmarks my style!! This also varies depending on the seasons.

Vow Renewal/Anniversary sessions times will vary. I always love including a golden hour session into these as this is my favorite time to shoot. These types of sessions have no set time but can be catered to what fits your time line.

What if my kids or husband isn’t in to it?

I hear this a lot. So don’t worry about it….. most of my clients going into a session aren’t really “feeling it” but trust me with this, your job is to just get them to the session, we can work out the rest once you arrive. If one of your children needs some space, I give it to them. Is dad stressed and would rather be watching the game?? Yeah probably. The advice I give to moms is prep your family. Talk to them about how important this is to you and what it means to you. They are your pride and joy and you want to have photographs with your loved ones. Most of the time mom is behind the camera and never in front of it…….you need to be documented too because you deserve that!! Leave the rest to me. I’ve got you mama!!
